Esporte Clube Sírio, or E.C. Sírio, is a Brazilian men's professional basketball club that is based in São Paulo, Brazil. The famous Brazilian player Oscar Schmidt played for the club, as did also Julinho (Julio Garavello), Marcos Leite and Marcel de Souza. ==History== Julio, a 6'07 Esporte Clube Sirio center from Sao Paulo, SP, 1st suited up for Brazil at the age of 17 in the 1974 FIBA World Championship. "Julinho" scored 16 points average in 7 appearances as Brazil took the gold medal. Julio Garavello remained with FSPB and Brazilian National Basketball Team and was one of the team's top players as they won the gold in the Pan American Games and Interclubs (Italy, Yoguslavia, Argentina, USA). Sírio won the Brazilian League championship 7 times, in the years 1968, 1970, 1972, 1978, 1979, 1983, and 1989. They also won the South American Club Championship 8 times, in the years 1961, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1978, 1979, and 1984. In addition to that, the club won the FIBA Intercontinental Cup in 1979.
